Drop typed text anywhere for labels, headings and worked answers — in a chalky hand, a marker, or a clean sans, whichever suits the board.

Find itThe Text tool. Font, size and B I U appear in the style bar.
Use itTap to place a box and type. Choose a font (Chalk, Marker, Clean), set the size (14–160 pt), bold/italic/underline, and a colour from the swatches.
Style part of the textWhile typing, select some words (drag across them, or Shift+arrow keys) and press B, I, U, S (strikethrough), the highlighter button (five marker colours, every colour on the board, or Any colour…), or a colour — only those words change, and the box stays open so you can carry on. Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and Ctrl+U do the same. With nothing selected, the buttons change the whole text, as they always have. The buttons light up to show the style of what is selected. Words typed straight after a bold word stay bold. Pasted words come in plain. Ctrl+Z while typing takes back the last style or word; after you finish, the board’s Undo takes back the whole edit. Styled text saves in your .slate file and reaches a live class; an older version of Slate opens it as plain text in the text’s own style.
Other languagesThe font list is grouped — Slate, Latin, Indic, Asian and Other scripts. Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Sinhala, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Arabic, Urdu, Hebrew, Cyrillic, Greek and Vietnamese are all there, each previewed in its own script. Slate carries no font files of its own — it asks your device for the best face it has, and falls back gracefully if a board is opened somewhere that lacks it.
