Slate — free online whiteboard and digital chalkboard for teaching
Slate is a free whiteboard for teaching that runs in the browser, with no account and nothing to install.
Teach on a green board, blackboard or whiteboard in a wooden frame; write with a pressure-sensitive pen,
pencil or highlighter; add sticky notes, shapes, text, tables, charts, mind maps and equations; and keep a
lesson as a deck of boards in one .slate file that stays on your device and works offline.
Slate remembers how the board was drawn: press play and the lesson redraws itself stroke by stroke, with
your recorded narration, and export it as a video, GIF or PDF. Run a live session for up to 60 students
alongside Google Meet, Zoom or Microsoft Teams — give each student a writing box, take hands up and
questions, run quizzes and polls, a classroom timer, a random name wheel and class games.

Clever answers score moreHit the target for 10, then more for using more of the maths.
How points work
10 for hitting the target exactly.
Up to 20 more for what your answer does: 2 for each different operation, 1 for each extra step, 3 for using × or ÷, 2 for each bracket that matters, 3 for a power, root or factorial, 1 for each tile beyond two.
+5 if nobody else found the same way (when Different ways is on), and up to +3 for speed.
Close but not exact? 4 points for 1 away, down to 1 for 4 away.
× 1, + 0 and brackets that change nothing earn nothing. Equal totals share a place.

Ambience
Something quiet moving in the space around the board. Never on your work, never in an export.
Scene
Shows a dot the size of the mark, right where it will land, instead of a picture of the tool beside it.
A nearly straight stroke snaps straight when you lift the pen. Undo brings back the hand-drawn one.
