47Lists and symbols
ListsWith the Text tool, the style bar now offers a bulleted, numbered or checklist style. Blank lines keep their gap without taking a bullet or a number.
TickingOn a checklist, select it once then tap a box to tick or untick it — so a class can work through a list together.
SymbolsSymbols live under Decor, below the accessories, covering emoji, travel, maths, arrows, shapes, Greek, accents, signs, music, nature, food, science, school and sport & games — about 700 in all. Recent is the first tab: it collects the ones you actually use, and the panel opens on it once there is something there.
Search by nameType what you want — plane, hotel, passport, train station, koala, tick, fraction — and every set is searched by the symbols’ own names, best match first; the start of a word is enough (air finds the aeroplane). Point at a symbol to see its name. Enter places the top match, and ↓ then the arrow keys move through the tiles.
Which ones you can recolourA plain symbol (maths, arrows, Greek, ★, ♥, and the plain travel and science signs such as ✈︎ ⚓︎ ♨︎) is drawn in your pen colour, and changes colour like any text: select it and pick a colour. A colour emoji (✈️ 🚢 🏨) keeps its own colours — the font draws it as a picture, so no app can repaint it. Pointing at a symbol says which kind it is, and Plain only beside the search box hides the colour emoji. Many travel signs are offered both ways. How plain signs look depends on the fonts on your computer.
ScreenshotsUnder Add image, Screenshot takes a still of another tab, a window or the whole screen. Your browser asks which one — Slate never picks for you, and cannot.
Why it says “Share”That wording belongs to your browser, not to Slate, and the same dialog is used for video calls. Nothing is shared and nothing leaves your device: Slate takes a single still picture and immediately lets go. Slate also asks the browser not to switch you to the tab you picked, so you stay on the board. Not available on iPad.
