Fill & paint — bucket, brush & stroke

05Filling & painting

The Fill tool does more than flood an area — it's a small paint studio. Pick a type: Bucket floods an enclosed region, Brush paints freehand, and Stroke lays a clean constant-width line. Whichever you choose, it paints with the same Solid, Gradient or Image source.

Edge matchThe bucket decides how close a colour has to be to count as the same area. Low suits flat line art; a photo blends over many colours at its edges, so raise it if a fill leaves a rough fringe. The softening of the edge follows the setting, so a wider match feathers more.
Find itThe Fill tool in the rail; the Fill style button opens the type, brush and paint options.
Use itChoose Bucket, Brush or Stroke. For a brush, pick a type — Round, Marker, Calligraphy, Spray or Oil — and a size. Set the paint to Solid, Gradient (end colour) or Image (tile/stretch). Bucket taps to fill; brush and stroke draw on the board.
Filling a shapeA solid bucket tap inside a shape that nothing else crosses sets the shape’s own fill. Tap again with another colour and it simply changes, so Delete removes the whole shape in one go, and the fill moves and resizes with it. Inside a hand-drawn loop, or a shape with a line drawn across it, the bucket floods the area you tapped as before; those fills belong to the loop around them: tapping one selects the loop, and moving or deleting the loop takes its fills with it.
Vector & lightBrush strokes are saved as vectors (not flattened images), so they stay crisp, replay in the player, and keep your .slate files small.
