02Colour & size
The style bar is mission control for whatever tool you're holding. Tap a swatch or open the custom picker for any colour, and dial the thickness with the stepper or slider. Found a combination you love? Save it — Slate keeps up to five presets each for the pen, pencil, highlighter, text and fill.
Find itThe style bar — the colour swatches and the + custom-colour chip; the −/+ size stepper; and the Save button at the end.
Use itTap a swatch or pick a custom colour; nudge the size. ▾ More colours beside the swatches opens the palettes, five in view at a time with the rest a scroll away: Classic plus twelve built in — Vivid, Soft, Ocean, Sunset, Earth, Forest, Berry, Citrus, Neon, Royal, Candy and Desert — each with a dark-board and a light-board version, and no colour repeated anywhere. Tap any colour to use it, or tap a palette’s name to make it your six. + Create new palette… makes your own from six colours (it starts from the six on your bar); yours are listed first under Custom, kept on this device, and the × deletes one. The dropper takes a colour from the board, to the pixel: while it is on, the pointer is an eyedropper everywhere, and a magnifier beside its tip shows the pixels underneath with the exact one it will take outlined and its colour code written out. Tap to take it; Esc cancels. With the colour eraser, tapping a mark takes that mark’s own colour, so the erase always matches. Tap Save to store the current tool as a preset, tap a preset to apply it, and the small × to remove one.
